Overview: This symposium/short course, co-sponsored by Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (LGBG) and the Central Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association (CVNLA), is the centerpiece of a joint anniversary celebration. For the Garden, it represents the first of a four-part symposium series in 2009 to mark its 25th anniversary celebration. For CVNLA the event serves both as its annual Winter Short Course and the highlight of the association’s 40th anniversary year.

Pesticide recertification training will take place on Friday and will apply to categories 3A, 3B, 8, 10, 60, and 91.

Description: Are we living in an era of extreme changes in climate? Or are green industries, as always, re-examining horticultural best practices in light of an ever-changing climate? "The right plant in the right place" takes on heightened meaning when we realize that our USDA zone reference points are gradually changing. The world of horticulture is being transformed by environmental, societal, and technological changes; the boundaries of our know-ledge and practice are being tested by the challenges of introduced insects and pathogens, invasive plants, and the shifting climate. This symposium focuses on how design and operational practices can serve as models for sustainability and environmental stewardship and turn today’s challenges into tomorrow’s opportunities.

Who Should Attend: Green business owners and their staffs, master gardeners, and sophisticated amateur gardeners.

Registration: Registration begins in November. Check www.lewisginter.org  for details.

In addition to the two years of credit for pesticide recertification, the short course is eligible for CEU's for Virginia Certified Horticulturist!
